Luca Forcucci

Biography

Luca Forcucci is an Italian and Swiss music and composer of electroacoustic music, artist and researcher. He observes the perceptual properties of sound, space and memory. His research explores experience as an artwork. He is interested in perception, subjectivity, mental image and consciousness. His sound installations, performances, texts, visuals and electroacoustic compositions are conceived as apparatuses in this context. This approach is inspired in particular by the American composer Pauline Oliveros and the deep listening, Neo-concrete artists Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica, and the musique concrète of Pierre Schaeffer. Forcucci earned a PhD in Music, Technology and Innovation from De Montfort University in the UK and a Master's degree in Sonic Arts from the University of from Queens University in Belfast. He studied electroacoustic music with the Swiss composer Rainer Boesch in Geneva. His research was also conducted at the Berlin University of the Arts with the German composer Walter Zimmerman and at the Sound Studies and Sonic Arts Department, at the INA/GRM in Paris (Institut National d'Audiovisuel / Groupe de Recherches Musicales) and at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France François Mitterrand. The NOTAM (Norwegian Center for Technology in Music and the Arts) invited him twice to compose and continue his research in Oslo. Forcucci is regularly invited as a composer, artist and researcher to universities. His works are presented worldwide in art biennials, contemporary music and art festivals, museums, galleries and theaters such as the New York Electroacoustic Music Festival 2020, Experimental Intermedia New York 2020, Biennale de la Mediterannée / Festival Transeurope Palermo 2019, EPFL Artlab Lausanne, International Symposium on Electronic Arts 2018 Durban in South Africa, International Symposium on Electronic Arts 2017 Manizales in Colombia, Red Bull Station São Paulo 2016, Centro Municipal de Arte Hélio Oiticica Rio de Janeiro, Festival Multiplicidade Rio de Janeiro 2016. He has received numerous awards including finalist for the 2019 Luigi Russolo Award. Forcucci has published his research with Leonardo Journal and Leonardo Music Journal MIT Press, Body Space and Technology Journal, Organised Sounds Cambridge University Press, Nature Journal, Art World Shanghai, and Springer Press. Compositions are published by Universal music, Cronica Electronica in Porto, Subrosa in Brussels, Elektra Music in Strasbourg, Glistening Examples in the USA, and on his own label LFO Editions.
