Biography
Trio Caelum met for the first time during their joint master's program in contemporary music at the Musik Akademie Basel, where they started developing their common sound and building the repertoire with Helmut Lachenmann’s work Allegro Sostenuto. What started with just a master class with the composer developed into a musical and human friendship and a common interest in exploring the repertoire of what seems to be a classical trio instrumentation. The intense work which Allegro sostenuto entailed shaped the Trio and sharpened the senses of the three musicians to contemporary playing techniques. Amongst their dedication on interpreting the existing contemporary trio repertory, Trio Caelum sees it’s responsability in collaborating with the new composer’s generation to create new works. In 2019, Trio Caelum premiered their first commission «Tanz», which was written by the swiss composer Jannik Giger.
